New Information Network for Regional Australia

Australian online technology pioneer, Keith Palmer, announces Australian regional information network.

Bunbury, Western Australia December 6, 2004 -? Australian online technology pioneer, Keith Palmer, announces Australian regional information network.

?Information for people and about people in regional Australia is an ever-increasing problem?, according to Australian technology pioneer Keith Palmer.

Palmer today announced his intention to counter this problem by introducing a series of regional information websites throughout regional Western Australia and Northern Territory, some of the world?s most isolated and least populated areas.

His concept is to produce a network of local high-quality websites with digital content and highly useable and updated information that would allow remote Australians access to the latest local information that is affecting their lives.

This will include local news feeds, live weather and forecasts including marine information, dust updates or whatever might be important in different communities. Included on these free information sites will be local content including history, maps, television and travel guides, bill payment services, local entertainment, business and government information, live polling of local issues, communication guides, fuel prices, holiday dates and real estate guides.

?More and more we are seeing the demise of local content in small regional communities. Local newspapers are being bought up by large corporations and rolled into statewide or national operations, television news is increasingly less local and local volunteer newsletters are going broke or just simply giving up?, according to Mr Palmer.

?Our aim is to bring back local information about local issues and local people for all members of the local community. We?ll do this by releasing locally-based internet websites for right across Western Australia and the Northern Territory?.

?We call this the WA Online Project and our motto is; Building information bridges for Australian communities?, Palmer said.

The WA Online sites will also produce a benefit to local communities as the sites will provide an insight into the area for tourists or for immigrants. A bonus is the live webcams being employed to give everyone a 24/7 view of the local area.

WA Online has registered Town Online domain names right across Western Australia and the Northern Territory so that all towns will have a uniform internet address.

The first information site being released by WA Online is Bunbury Online (http://www.bunburyonline.com) and this will be followed at the beginning of 2005 by Busselton Online.

According to Palmer there is nothing like this co-ordinated concept of networked information sites across regional Australia and he expects strong interest from Australian Government agencies keen to see development of regional areas within Australia.
